Bridal Getting Ready Photography Tips | Colorado Wedding Photographer

The getting ready portion of the day is filled with a lot of key moments and is a great part of your wedding day. Hair, makeup, dress, and a timeline to make all of it fit nicely. Most of what makes this part of your day a success is the preparation that is done way before this day arrives.

Here are some tips to help make this part of your day smooth and harmonious, so you can create priceless moments for you, your family, and friends to look back on and relive for a lifetime.

HIRE QUALITY VENDORS

The quality of your vendors will determine how smooth the ride is on your wedding day. You wouldn’t want to hire a photographer (Your uncle John who’s great at landscape photos) that has no experience with weddings, just because they have an expensive camera, would you? This includes your hair/makeup artist, coordinator, florist, etc.

The specifics of a wedding timeline can be very detailed. One wrench in the mix can alter the whole structure of your day. For more tips about time lengths, take a look at my Wedding Photography Timeline here.

Before hiring your vendor, do your research. Ask other vendors, look at reviews, and schedule a call, or face-to-face with him/her. Trust your intuition after meeting with them. A wedding planner can also be a key part of your wedding day. They will be the conductor and the gel that binds your vendors with your timeline.

BRIDES HAIR AND MAKUP FIRST / PLAN ENOUGH TIME

Have your hair/makeup artists schedule you first before your bridal party. Then they can always come back for your final touch ups when your photographer/videographer show up for this part of your day. This will ensure that you are ready for your letter reading exchange, first look, or any other timeline scheduled needs.

Referring back to the Wedding Photography Timeline, make sure you plan enough time for the hair and makeup preparation. Again, this is where a great hair and makeup artist will help you determine how much time is needed for this part of your day.

HAVE ALL DETAILS READY

Have your rings, shoes, dress, and everything of importance in one location and ready to go for your photographer. That way when your photographer arrives, they don’t have to waste anytime tracking things down.

All the way to unpacking your dress and having it all ready to go on your costume hanger. Every little thing counts.

KEEP ROOM CLEAN

I know, keeping a room clean while eight people are getting ready can sound challenging. But being aware of this and putting forth a little effort can go a long way. Make it a point to keep drinks/snacks, packaging, clothing, etc. out of view and tidied up. This will make for much better photos and give your photographer the opportunity to utilize every artistic angle to capture all your special moments with flow and ease.

UTILIZE WINDOW LIGHT

If there is an option, choose the room with the best window light. Nothing greater than non-direct, natural light flowing in the room. This is also something to keep in mind when setting up your hair and makeup station. Make sure the bride and bridal party are seated next to the window for more flattering, natural images.

INCLUDE YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY

With all the laughs and great memories you and your bridal party are creating, why not include other loved ones in the fun. Have your friends and family stop in and be apart of these moments with you. Even if the room is small, have a few-at-a-time stop by throughout the getting ready portion of the wedding day. The more time you can have your photographer capture intimate moments with your family and friends the better. You’ll be happy you had that extra time while looking through your finished wedding gallery.

If you have any questions on your specific day and timeline, I am an open book. Please feel free to message me anytime. And if you want to no more about my booking process or availability, I look forward to hearing from you.
