5 Questions to ask your Wedding Photographer | Colorado Wedding Photographer
What you need to know before booking your Wedding Photographer
When interviewing potential wedding photographers, it can be dismaying to know what questions you should be asking. It’s not like we hire professional wedding photographers every day. Whether you are hiring Jason Batch Photography or another wedding photography company, here are 5 important questions to help you find your perfect photographer for your wedding day.
1. Is Weddings your Specialty?
Say your colleague at work recommends their family photographer to you. Their portfolio is stunning and they have a great personality. Sounds perfect right? Maybe so and maybe not. I would ask first what their studio specializes in and how many weddings do they shoot per year. A little bit of research like looking over the photographers website or reviews can go a long way, and most likely will reassure you that they are experienced in wedding photography. If they do multiple services like family, headshots, seniors, wedding, this question would be on the top of my list.
2. What style do you specialize in?
I know, the main reason you’re talking with the photographer in the first place is because you love their images. I would still dig into what style they specialize in. Do they pride them selves in their formal and staging ability, or journalistic style with their candid eye. For me, I love to document special moments and turn them into memories with my own artistic fashion. For more about me and my style, check out my About page on my website.
3. Do you provide a Contract?
As a professional wedding photographer, I think I sleep in the rem cycle a bit longer with a freshly signed wedding contact. You should require a contract from your photographer that describes the pricing, hours and date, cancelation clause, etc. Not only does it protect you, but the wedding photographer as well. And I’m sure we can all agree, more sleep is always better than less.
4. Do you have insurance?
A professional photographer should have insurance for their business. Not only does it protect the photographers equipment from theft, it will provide liability protection for you and your guests. Like if little Billy trips over the photographer’s light stand and breaks his wrist. It’s one more box checked to reassure that your wedding photographer is qualified to fulfill your wedding day needs.
5. Do you have a backup camera? Duel memory card slots?
Your wedding day is a priceless occasion that will not allow a second take. Good equipment and good backups are a must. It would be horrible if your photographers camera broke down in the midst of your wedding, and they didn’t have a backup camera to capture the rest of the day. That go’s the same for duel memory card slots. If you go parachuting for the first time and your instructor says “Our parachutes don’t have backup (reserve) shoots..” Would you jump?
